You know those pinky promises you make as a child – we’ll be best friends forever, you’ll be my maid of honor – those type of promises? They seem totally silly in retrospect, but for me they are absolute truths.
See, my cousin Becca and I have been besties for as long as I can remember. We’ve celebrated practically every birthday together (April 3 and April 4 babies), gone on countless family vacations, taken roadtrips of our own, made movies, partied, laughed, cried, you name it – together. We’re a pretty close pair.
Which is why when it came to pick my maid of honor for my wedding I did not hesitate. I remembered that promise we made years earlier and called her up to pop the question. And what a great decision. Bec was my one and only bridesmaid and totally the right person to have by my side. She drove me through McDonald’s for apple juice, saw me through my hair-related meltdown, and chilled out with me in the hotel room eating chicken tenders before the ceremony – all that before delivering a killer speech.
Bec is my bestie/cousin/soul sister and I am so glad she stood by my side. While I declared my love for Michael on our wedding day, I also got to stand up in front of the same people and say that Becca is my best friend.
And as a BFF, I am so happy I get to return the favor next fall when Becca marries her fiancé Bobby. I am so thrilled to be a part of their big day and I am so so so excited to be matron of honor. Get ready for this speech, Bec! Only 345 days to go!
