Lazy Saturday: Dane County Farmers’ Market

Filed Under: Adventure, Lazy Saturday Tagged With: Farmers Market, Lazy Saturday, Madison

It took me all spring, summer and the first few days of fall, but I finally did it, you guys: I made it to the Dane County Farmers’ Market in Madison.

Market sunflowers

While I was in college, there was hardly a Saturday between April and November that I missed the market. Most mornings I’d wake up, ready or not, with one thing on my mind: cookies. So I’d be off getting a giant M&M cookie and back before my friends had even lurched from their beds.

Today my singleminded search has shifted to Stella’s blueberry scones and Summer Kitchen’s jams. This place has hands down the best jam I’ve ever had. If you’re new to the stand, I’m going to throw out that the Hedgerow (strawberry, blackberry, blueberry, and raspberry) is the best. Along with all the other varieties.

Summer Kitchen's jam

After a lap around the square and a short walk up State Street, I came home with this little haul: two new jams, some baby bellas from Palm’s Mushroom Cellar, mini sweet peppers, and a few Cortland apples. I admittedly also had two scones, some apple cider, and a few pieces of candy, but that’s all gone now – can you blame me?

My haul. Forgive the wrinkled tablecloth.

If you lucky Wisconsinites haven’t been yet this year, you have until November 8th!

Stone Creek Factory

Filed Under: Adventure Tagged With: MKE

Is walking six blocks from your work considered an adventure? No, but I’ll file this in the adventure category because I was out and about.

Now I don’t normally take coffee shop pictures (not even a #nofilter Instagram of my cold brew because OMG I love it) but this was a very informal photo shoot for work. And by that I mean I was charged with blogging about National Coffee Day and I took that as permission to chill out at the Stone Creek Coffee factory while occasionally snapping pictures, and in this case being extremely conspicuous and standing on a bench to get an aerial shot because eye level wasn’t enough.

Anyways, thank you, Stone Creek baristas, for not glaring at me too much and for not rolling your eyes when my friends and I asked for mugs so they’d look better in photos. You’re awesome. Also, if you’re in the area and have an afternoon to kill, I recommend kicking your feet up by the fire here. It’s pretty damn cozy.

A Little Background

Do you need context for a blog? No, but like my opinions on why Pete Campbell is the best Mad Men character, I’m going to give it to you anyway.

I just purchased my first home. It belonged to my amazing great-aunt who was swank, sassy and not fond of home improvements. This means that the slick 1960s ranch is as amazingly rustic and borderline tacky as the day she bought it. To give you an idea, wood paneling covers a solid 50% of the walls, there’s green shag as far as the eye can see, and there are some strange (but amazing) trademark features like forest wallpaper and a cone fireplace surrounded by a rock garden. So I’m here in this home now with my cranky cat, trying to make it mine while preserving the parts of this home that make it a family landmark.

Mary
See? Look how swanky this lady was.

What I’m saying that this is the perfect place for some very specific decorating posts (“How to Best Display Your Giant Tom Jones Poster” or “How Many Accordion Doors is Too Many?). I also anticipate it being a spot to share some of my crafting endeavors, cats cats cats, and some good ol’ Wisconsin charm.

And I’ll spare you my thoughts on Pete Campbell… for now.

Hello?

Well, here I am world. Stepping into the world of personal/lifestyle/DIY/cat lady blogging unsteady as a baby fawn, but I’m here and that’s what counts. I’ve been daydreaming of blogging for a while now but really needed the kick in the pants of buying a house to make it a reality.

So here I am: in a cabin in the city.
